| Artist Statement: “These are freehand drawings. My tools are a hard pencil, white paper, magnifier, blending tool and three types of erasers: a cylindrical eraser, repeatedly trimmed with a blade to remove graphite already laid down, leaving fine white lines. A pencil eraser for lightening areas such as clouds, without making white lines. A standard eraser for mistakes and second thoughts. I avoid touching the paper with my hands. I use my own photographic reference and memories of time spent at sea, for inspiration, but don’t just copy photographs.” |
