Artist Statement: Savoir Faire Hats by Ann McMahon are each one-of-a-kind creations.  Hats, including cocktail hats and “fascinators” are made from fine materials including silk-linen parisisol, fine seagrass, silk and velvet.  Vintage materials from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s are incorporated into her work.  She often uses expert dressmaker techniques such as silk ribbon embroidery, ribbon-work and smocking.

Although trained as a classical musician, Ann’s fervor for hat making led her to teach millinery at the School for Fashion Design on Newbury St. in Boston.  She sells her hats from her website or at top level juried craft and artisan shows.  Among people purchasing her hats are Aretha Franklin, Goldie Hawn and Jennifer Gray.
